How to get your Dutch driver’s licence
If you live in the Netherlands you may use your foreign driver’s licence for a certain time, the length of which depends on which country issued the licence. After this ’probation period’ has elapsed you must have obtained a Dutch driver’s

Licence.
The rules are as follows:  

If you have a valid driver’s licence issued in one of the European Union, the EER -members or NATO military personnel stationed in the Netherlands you may use it for up to a year from the day you start living in the Netherlands.

You have to registrated your driver’s licence with the RDW Vehicle technology and information centre (Tel: 0598 624240). If you have a driver’s licence issued in a country other than those listed above, or in the Dutch Antilles or Aruba, you may use it up to 185 days after moving to the Netherlands. Before these 185 days elapse you must have obtained a Dutch driver’s licence.
During a period of one year you must be registrated at the town hall and your licence must be valid.

The road test and the theory test.
You can get your Dutch driver’s license by passing a theory test and a road test at the Special Driving Test Office ( BNOR) of the Dutch Driver’s License Authority ( CBR).

If you fail the accelerated test (which is given in the knowledge that you have prior driving experience, remember you can do the test only once) you will have to take a normal theory test and a road test at the CBR.

The mock test

Since this year you can also do a mock test. Meaning: your driving school will apply for a mock test, during this ” pre- exam” you have to show the examiner that you are able and safety can do the special actions like turning in a small street, parking etc. you also have to answer a few theory questions.

You do the mock test at 2/3 of your training.

If you do all things well you pass the mock test. The examiner will give you,

after you did your test, same advice according to your driving and how to improve.

and that you will be less nervous at the real exam.
